Andrew Roelofs spent his early childhood in New York City and after moving to London, trained as an architect in Edinburgh. He holds an MA with Honours and the Diploma in Architecture from the University of Edinburgh, and the Post-Graduate Diploma in Building Conservation from the Architectural Association in London. He is a member of the RIBA and is registered with ARB. He is insured in accordance with the requirements of ARB.
Andrew is a UK-registered architect and has worked in the UK, US and Australia. He has 10 years’ experience with major UK and US architectural practices, in each of the Refurbishment, Healthcare Design and Building Conservation sectors. In his own practice he has handled complex Planning Applications involving modern buildings in Conservation Areas and produces Architectural CAD Models and Animations, Walk-Throughs and Fly-Arounds for proposed and existing buildings.
Andrew believes that during the current rapidly changing environmental conditions, and the growing use of digital technology, and increasing user expectations, buildings should be designed to meet future conditions, not current standards. Therefore he believes that property owners should aim to exceed the minimum requirements of planning policies and building codes, and that this approach is valuable in dealings with challenging and/or skeptical stakeholders.
He carries out a comprehensive analysis of the problems and opportunities of the site, and ensures that every aspect of the development is considered. Painstaking survey and research lead to the success of this approach.
He can provide all the necessary material for a Pre-Application Discussion, a Design & Access Statement, and a full Planning Application, and has expert contacts in the other allied disciplines should they be required. He himself can carry out Condition Surveys, Defects Investigations, Conservation Appraisals, Repairs Specifications, Method Statements, Feasibility Studies and Building Modelling.
Andrew recommends that a CAD model of the existing site and buildings be commissioned at the commencement of the project. This will be invaluable in representing the complexity of the physical geometry, history, property boundaries, levels and context. Once a model is prepared, it is possible to generate an unlimited number of views and presentations from it. He believes that any proposal for the development of a site must be of the highest quality and also presented to the highest standard.
